Big Announcement Awaited on the Class 12 CBSE Board Exam
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting today, and probably the government will decide the fate of the CBSE Class 12th exam.
Participants in the Meeting:
Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, Education ministers of states and UTs
CBSE officials Senior officers from the education department.
Two Options Proposed By the Government:
According to sources, the government has proposed two options to conduct the class 12 Board Exams. While some states have accepted to conduct the exam as per the options provided while others have opposed the idea of holding the exams altogether in the pandemic.
The Central Government has proposed two proposals for conducting the class 12 Board exams to the states.
The Two Proposals:
Reducing the examination time from 3 hours to 90 minutes.
Reduce the overall number of subjects for the exam and conduct the exam for a few subjects only. For the remaining exams for which exams will not be held, the students will be marked based on the internal assessment by the school.
Opinion of the States:
Some states are unanimous that they can conduct the exam when there is a decline in the covid-19 cases. They are hopeful of conducting the exam around September. Some states have disagreed on holding the Class 12 Boards altogether.
States which have refused the Proposal
Maharashtra and Delhi have outrightly rejected the idea of conducting the class 12 board exams amidst the pandemic. Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia held a press conference today and expressed concern over the children’s health.
States which are hopeful of conducting the class 12 Board Exams
Chhattisgarh has decided to go ahead with the Proposal and conduct the exams after the second wave of the Covid 19 subsides. Jharkhand CM said that it is essential to conduct the exams, and it is also crucial to understand the mental state of the students and get their feedback before making a final decision. He further said that he welcomed the decision of the central government to reduce the number of subjects and timing for the exam and requested the government to be sensitive towards the timing of the exams as there are many children whose parents have succumbed to covid-19.
The Final Decision:
There was no final decision taken in the meeting. Rajnath Singh told the participants that the meeting was about exchanging ideas and getting suggestions and feedback, and the same would be shared with the higher authorities. The feedback will be shared with the Prime Minister’s Office. Soon the government will decide the fate of the Class 12th CBSE Board Exams.
